Popular Nigerian veteran actress and movie director/producer, Rachel Oniga, has passed away on Friday night after fighting with a deadly virus known as Covid-19, a virus that was mistakenly released in Wuhan, China, early last year and it targets mostly the old people.

Brief biography of Rachel Oniga before her death

She was born on 23rd May, 1957 in a small village called Ebute Metta in Lagos State but her father is originally from Eku, a community in Ethiope East local government area in Delta State, Southern Nigeria. She got separated from her late husband before she started her acting career in 1993.

Before their separation, they had three children, even though only one has been disclosed to the media as Georgia because she made Rachel Oniga, a grandmother after she gave birth to a bouncing baby girl in September 5th, 2014. Rachel’s husband left her with her three children for another woman of lesser age, way before she became an actress.

Even though she was shocked during the separation because she was very close to her husband even to the point of predicting where he was at any point and can’t tell his thoughts. Since her separation in the early nineties, she didn’t remarry because she wanted to prove to her late husband that with God by her side, a woman can make it in life without a man’s support.

According to Nigeria monitor, Rachel Oniga said that, she killed all emotions longing for a man so as to train her three children through the best schools. Rachel had her primary school education in Abule-Oja, Lagos State but was withdrawn from her secondary school in Lagos State by her father to study in Edo state because he wanted to teach her a lesson after she was constantly fighting in school and most of her childhood friends and playmates were mostly boys.

She later came back to Lagos to study computer programming at Lagos State university (LASU) after her secondary education in Edo State. After her graduation, she worked briefly Asoline Nigeria Limited, a Dutch Consultant Company before her first movie titled, ‘Onome’ and her debut Yoruba movie titled,‘Owo Blow’.

As the years went by, Rachel has featured in notable Nigerian films such as Sango, a movie scripted by Wale Ogunyemi, produced and directed by Obafemi Lasode and Wale Adenuga’s television series, Super story. Rachel is currently worth more 450,000 dollars. She died at 64 years.

Rachel is one of the richest and most influential actress but being a veteran actress, she has little or not like for social media hence, why she is so secretive. In her course of acting, she has won several awards including Best Supporting Actress at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, Best Indigenous Actress (Yoruba) at the Best of Nollywood Awards, Most Promising Actress in Nigeria at the City People Entertainment Awards and Best Actress in a Television/Drama at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Prior to her death, Rachel Oniga’s last successful movie was My Village people which she acted with Nkem Owoh, Ada Ameh, Bovi, Charles Inojie, Sophie Alakija, Zubby Michael, Akah Nnani, Amaechi muonagor, Oge Amuta, Oyibo Rebel, Resa Edem, Veezee Baybeh, Binta Ayomogaji, Francis Sule and Mimi onalaja.

Her family members has released a press statement saying that, Rachel Oniga’s death wasn’t Covid-19 but was heart failure, which she suffered for long before her demise.
