Popular Nigerian veteran actress, movie producer/director and grandmother, Rachel Oniga kicked the bucket on Friday night after fighting with heart issues for more than 3 months. She died at the age of 64 years, 6 years from being a septuagenarian.
Rachel Oniga is a divorcee, whose husband left her for a younger woman before she started her acting career in 1993, even when she thought she was close to him and knew him like the back of her hands, to the point of predicting his every movement and the thoughts in his heart.
After she divorced her husband, she put all her energy, time, money and emotions towards the upbringing of her three children, who are now her pride and joy. She made sure her children passed through the best schools even though she wasn’t so lucky in hers as she was constantly fighting and her father kept changing school for her.
Prior to her death, Rachel Oniga became a grandmother after one of his children gave birth to a bouncing baby girl on September 24th, 2014. She is now one of the most influential and popular actress in Nigeria with a net worth of over 500,000 US Dollars.
Rachel Oniga raised her three children on her own to prove to her ex-husband, who died few years ago that, a woman can make it in life without the help of a man. Even though, she lived a secluded lifestyle and kept most of her private matters off social media including the details of her nuclear family, she didn’t forget to leave her mark on the world.
As the years went by, Rachel has featured in notable Nigerian films such as Sango, a movie scripted by Wale Ogunyemi, produced and directed by Obafemi Lasode and Wale Adenuga’s television series, Super story.
In her course of acting, she has won several awards including Best Supporting Actress at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, Best Indigenous Actress (Yoruba) at the Best of Nollywood Awards, Most Promising Actress in Nigeria at the City People Entertainment Awards and Best Actress in a Television/Drama at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

According to Gistreel, Rachel Oniga’s colleague and close friend in the Movie industry, Patience Ozokwo wept bitterly after hearing of her friend’s death. At first, she thought that it was one of these scams people do because she couldn’t believe that, her friend turned sister is truly gone.
She also said that, she didn’t knew she was sick neither did she disclose it to her during their get-together at Chief Daddy’s movie premiere because if she did, she would have come to her sick bed to be with her and tell her, a proper sorry when she still alive, not now she is dead.
She also added that, they both planned to do things together this year and Rachel Oniga’s last words to her was that, she should never forget her in this life, which she replied with, never. This is a true friend and it’s rare to find such friends in this world. May Rachel Oniga’s gentle soul rest in peace and may God grant her children, who are now orphans, the strength to persevere in all things and keep a sane mind, at all times.
