In the densely populated city of Oyo, a state known as the paceseetter nationwide , Ogbomosho is one of the biggest football towns with largest football enthusiast in the state. Crown Fc was founded in 1994 by astute sport lover Rev and Professor Obaje who gathered young and talented footballers within the town for training and basic football tactics using seminary pitches for practice. It no longer news that the then boys club is now a professional football outfit plying their trade in the second-highest tier of club football in Nigeria known as the Nigerian National League(NNL).
In a town of super talented grassroots footballers, the boys club was instrumental to the local development of the crown fc feeders team. The mighty crown fc widely regarded as the “Jeller”Boys is the oldest grassroots club in Ogbomosho whose training ground is situated at Ogbomosho High school along Oyo-Ibadan road. In recent times, hundreds of players have been scouted by crown fc management into the feeders team. Former Hosanna fc player Adeyi Tobi was nurtured through the system and today he’s an household name in the state. The midfield maestro played many matches 3seasons ago for the Ajilete boys securing many assists for the team so as to avoid relegation. Under the able late tactician “Pele” and the current team manager Oyekale Oladuni, the player is currently on loan from kwara state United.
Crown fc of Ogbomoso popularly known as the Ajilete Boys are up and doing in the NNL. The team official stadium is located along Lautech Under G road with 5000 capacity. In the bid to renovate the poorly maintained soccer ground, the minister of sports Hon.Sunday Dare in collaboration with the Oyo state Governor Engr Seyi Makinde has donated a huge sum of money to complete the rehabilitation of dilapidated structures with the enlargement of seaters for fans to enhance a good sporting experience. The renovation is currently underway forcing matches to be temporarily suspended. This spate of development has deprived fans of watching live matches of Crown Fc of Ogbomoso. The new playground is the Lekan Salami sport complete in Ibadan.
The highly decorated local derby between 3SC of Ibadan and the Ajilete boys have witnessed many unforgettable nostalgic moments between the fans and players. The two league clubs have met each other over 20times within one and a half-decade. Before 2016, 3SC was victorious over crown fc for a record of 9times with 2losses and 2 draws on the historic state FA cup.
In 2011, the Ogbomosho outfit club gained promotion into the Nigeria premier league after winning 65% of matches in division B. It was a moment of joy as fans locally were sent into ecstasy as crown FC played in the NPFL for the first time. The joy no knows bound as Ex Governor Alao Akala donated cash and car gift to players and club management. As much expected, League success requires quality players and proper funding tailored toward good administration.
It quite unfortunate as Soun Stadium stadium didn’t meet the standard capacity of at least 20000 seaters. Fans have to travel over 120 kilometers to watch their team and this have poured cold water into the heart of many sport lovers in Ogbomoso. Going forward, playing without enthusiast in the stadium coupled with poor welfarism of players results in poor performance. At the end of the 2011 season, Crown fc manage to record 11 wins in 38games. The club was relegated to the second tier again and ever since then, crown fc found it difficult to gather momentum.
On the achievement ladder, crown fc manages to win the National League in 2009-2010. With many runners-up medals in the state FA cup history, the club only managed to win a prestigious trophy 🏆 twice.
